I Am Chamorro Screens at Pacific Islander Film Festival

We are thrilled to announce that "I Am Chamorro" was screened at the Pacific Islander Film Festival in Long Beach, California on November 15, 2024. The screening drew over 200 attendees from diverse Pacific Islander communities, including a strong contingent of Chamorro families from Southern California.

The post-screening panel discussion featured our director alongside Chamorro community leaders, educators, and cultural practitioners who engaged the audience in a powerful conversation about the challenges and opportunities facing indigenous Pacific Islander communities in the diaspora. Attendees praised the film for its honest portrayal of colonial trauma while celebrating the strength and beauty of Chamorro culture.

Several educators expressed interest in using the documentary as a teaching tool in their classrooms, and we distributed information about our educational outreach program. The festival provides an important platform for Pacific Islander voices and stories that are too often marginalized in mainstream media. We are grateful to the festival organizers and to everyone who attended and shared their mana'o (thoughts) with us.
